Porcelains and Celadons
Show dates: March 6 – 28, 2010

The Myers Gallery at Muddy’s Studio will begin their 2010 exhibit season with Porcelains and Celadons. This international juried show seeks to explore the delicate balance between the ancient celadon and its’ relationship to porcelains. Kevin A. Myers, artist, professor and gallery owner will be the juror for this show.

Criteria for Porcelains and Celadons:
Submission of work covers thin, thick, carved, blue, green, yellow, functional and sculptural. Attention should be given to surface form and historical value of glaze.

About the Juror, Kevin A. Myers
Kevin A. Myers received his MFA form Otis College of Art and Design and he is currently a professor at Orange Coast College. Kevin was hired as a visiting lecturer at UCLA in the late 90’s where he taught Raku and its’ process exclusively. Kevin has conducted Raku workshop for the past 15 years through Southern California. The immediate response and dynamics of Raku are engaging for everyone.

Raku – The Polaroid of Ceramics
Show dates: April 10 – 30, 2010

The Myers Gallery in Muddy’s Studio is excited to host a show committed entirely to the Raku process. Kevin A. Myers artist, professor and gallery owner will be the juror for this national exhibit.

Criteria for Raku - The Polaroid of Ceramics:
All works will be considered that have a glazed, post-fired, reduced surface.

Containers 2010
Show dates: May 1– 28, 2010

For our third show of the season, The Myers Gallery will present Containers 2010. Containers have always played a significant role, in every culture, throughout time. We look forward to hosting a show that examines and defines a real potential of the container.

Criteria for Containers 2010:
This year’s container show is open to all containers that are functional, decorative, historical, or sculptural in nature.

About the Juror, John Hopkins
Having worked with clay for over forty years I have come to appreciate all approaches to working with clay. I appreciate the attention getters next to the quiet and refine. When I jury exhibitions I first look for execution of craftsmanship. I want to see form and surface working as one. Given the hundreds of ways of approaching clay I then look for an original or unique way of using traditional techniques. The pieces that are going beyond emulating someone else’s style, and doing it well, are the award pieces. These are the works that are going beyond the basics and showing us a fresh new approach.

Pot and the Figure
Show dates: June 5– 30, 2010

The figure has always served as a narrative for artists throughout the ages. The Myers Gallery is excited to present work that reflects the nature of a pot and the figure.

Criteria for Pot and the Figure:
The work must contain or reflect some imagery of the figure or comprised of the figure. All figurative work will be considered.
